Location and Transportation

The gateway to the West Coast, Pomona not only offers direct access to five major Southern California freeways — Interstates 10 and 210, and the 57, 60 and 71 Freeways — it’s also strategically located on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County.

Here Pomona links two major population centers, the booming Inland Empire and the prosperous San Gabriel Valley. And it’s at the junction of four counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino.

Good Morning,
It's mid-morning on Saturday in Southern California. For November,it is damp and a bit cold. As I'm finishing the clean up from breakfast and beginning to double check everything for the guests arriving in a few hours, I hear the chime of the bells from the church across the street. Of course it's not the first time I've heard the bells after all these years. However, it slows my steps today as I realize not everyone has the pleasure of hearing the church bells ringing to announce the hour of the day. As I smile at the sound, I remind myself that it's good to slow down and take notice of the little things. That's one of the reasons Artesia House Bed & Breakfast is here, so you can slow down and take notice of some things that you've been missing. Do you hear the bells?

That's right the Los Angeles County Fair is right around the corner-literally and physically! It begins Labor Day Weekend on Saturday, September 3rd. Plan to attend one of the concerts and include a stay at the Artesia House Bed & Breakfast!

University Celebrations

It's celebration time for the neighboring universities! We just finished serving some of the Alumni of the Claremont Colleges!

Azusa Pacific University is celebrating Spring Commencement for all students on Saturday, May 7, 2011.

Commencement Ceremonies for the 7 Claremont Colleges will take place the weekend of May 14 & 15, 2011.

Western University of Health Sciences will hold their commencement ceremonies at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on May 19 & 20, 2011.

On May 27 & 28, 2011 University of La Verne will hold its commencement ceremonies.

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona aka Cal Poly Pomona will hold Commencement Ceremonies June 10-12, 2011.

Pitzer College has scheduled their Alumni Weekend for June 10-12, 2011.

Long awaited by academics every year, U.S. News and World report today unveiled their 27th list of college rankings for universities and liberal arts colleges. And lots of applause should go locally. Among the top 50 universities were six in Southern California: CalTech (#7), USC (#23), UCLA (#25). UCSD (#35), UCSB (#39) and UC Irvine (#41).

And there were six liberal arts colleges in their category's top 50: Pomona College (#6), Claremont Mckenna (#11), Harvey Mudd (#18), Scripps (#23), Occidental (#36) and Pitzer (#46).

Well we can say that we had a winter this year! You know out-of-staters usually tease Californians about not having distinct seasons like they do, well no more! It was sunny today with a cold breeze, for us that is. We're looking forward to springing ahead this Sunday, so don't forget to turn your clock forward before you go to bed Saturday night!

The mountains are beautiful and I hear the snowboarding is good in Big Bear Mountain. Stay with us at Artesia House Bed & Breakfast on your way to the slopes!

Los Angeles County Fair Information

The LA County Fair will begin on Saturday, September 5th through Monday, September 7th. Then Wednesdays-Sundays September 9th-October 4th.

Opening weekend September 5-7 from 10am-1pm only Admission is $1.00. Otherwise admission is $17 weekends and $12 weekdays for adults. Parking $10.00.

Also on opening weekend from 1-4pm get a 22oz soft drink for $1 and from 4-7pm ride carnival rides and play games for $1.

Artesia House Bed & Breakfast is a great place to lodge while you enjoy the LA County Fair!

Enjoy a relaxing evening. Join the Pomona Concert Band at the G. Stanton Shelby Band shell Thursdays at 8pm through August 27th.

It's coming fast! The 2009 LA County Fair will begin on Saturday, September 5th and end on Sunday, October 4th!

The Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas is open from sunrise to 9pm for your recreational enjoyment. The swimming takes place on the South shore Thursdays through Sundays from 10am-6pm until Labor Day. Fishing, boating, bicycle rentals, jet ski rentals, Raging Waters water park and the golf course are available as well.

Remember Artesia House Bed & Breakfast as you plan your entertainment or recreational visit to the area.

In March, President Obama visited Pomona, CA to tour the Edison Vehicle Technical Plant on East End Ave. The Advanced Placement Language Arts class at Village Academy High School that sent the video "Is Anybody Listening?" to President Obama also had a chance to meet him.

Last month, the Pomona Heritage hosted a Christmas Progressive Dinner. A private home, The Historical Society of Pomona Valley, and Artesia House Bed & Breakfast were used as the appetizer, main dish, and dessert sites. In the course of the evening, I was asked if I had stories of terrible guests. My reply was no, I do not because we have had the absolutely best guests!! We've had guests from as far away as Ireland and as close as the Los Angeles area and they have all been delightful! Bed & Breakfast guests are special as they enjoy the home-like atmosphere and the interaction with the innkeepers. So if you're a nice person, I look forward to seeing you in 2009 at the Artesia House Bed & Breakfast.
